The dogs

Dogs available for adoption

Sully

Sully is a 3-4 year old female heeler/Border Collie cross who was turned into a shelter in Alabama after she had pups. She is a wonderful, no frills girlie, who will be faithful by your side through thick and thin. She does well with other dogs, but doesn't really play with them. She prefers to be with people. Sully loves watching TV with you, and she likes going for long walks and hikes. Belly rubs and grooming are also high on her list of favorite things. She has no bad habits, she goes right into her crate, and we haven't heard her bark yet. Thus far she hasn't shown any ball or toy drive, but that may change, who knows...

Sully would prefer a home with only one or two other dogs, or perhaps just her people to herself. She isn't noise sensitive, she walks well on a leash, does well on car rides. She is also fully vetted, spayed, and up to date on shots. She is heartworm negative, which is a big plus these days. If you're looking for a great friend and companion dog, this is your girl!

Update 11/1 Sully our border/heeler mix is feeling SO much better. Her true colors are coming out, and she is a moderately active girl. She loves squeaky toys, and a good game of ball. She has started wrestling with the other dogs, and every once in a while she gets into a good ol' fashioned game of heeler nip and chase. She is also a digger, so we're finding alternate things to do. She will be very suitable for hiking, biking, agility (probably not on a competitive level) and a great dog for a family with older children (not toddlers). She is a focused and loving girl, devoted to people, and she would love to spend her time trying to please you!

Rummie

Rummie is a long legged smoothie border collie!! He is a sweet boy, full of life and love!! His age anywhere from 10 mo to a little over a year. He has to me a puppy body and mind. He is  new here to the rescue but as he gets more comfortable, we can see that he is a highly active boy!! He loves to play play play! Ball, frisbee, likes the water, you throw it, he gets it!

Rummie would be a great prospect for agility,  he would be in the 24 in class! Very receptive to learning, he does know sit and we are working on the rest. Great dog for someone looking for an active companion or would want a competitive boy in the early stages! A bit needy right now, he loves to be loved on, looks to you for direction, can be a bit spooked with sudden moves, and there may be some abuse in his past.

He gets along great with other dogs, and it is truly a sight of beauty to watch him play. Does not appear to be noise sensitive. Loves his crate goes right in, very housebroken, no marking in the house. He does chase lizards, and birds flying in the sky, so would not recommend a home with cats. He is just so excited to learn about what you want him to do, it is pure joy to watch this boy unfold.

The catch?? Heartworm positive. A visit to the vet this week will determine our treatment plan. He is available now as a foster option, we will cover all his medical expenses and of course the heartworm treatment. Please contact us for further info on what would be involved. This boy should not be overlooked because of heartworms, actually the recovery period is an excellent time for bonding and training basic manners.

UPDATE - 11/1 Rummie had a vet visit this week, and he is doing wonderful! He has been aged at around 2 yrs old via teeth. He needs to put on a little more weight. He was retested for heartworm for specific load and found to be barely weak positive. That is great news! He will be treated only with the monthly dose of heartguard and is on an antibiotic for 30 days, as well as aspirin. He will need to continue with his monthly heartguard and be retested in 4 mos. His activity level is unrestricted and he can lead a normal life! That means he can now go to a loving adoptive family who will be considerate about giving him his heartworm meds! Rummie has a high activity level. He loves to play ball and tug and would be awesome in sports. He loves other dogs, and loves to run! We are working on some basic obedience skills, and he still has some shyness in coming to people so we are working with that also. Overall, he is a delightful sweet playful boy, who will need to be kept busy. He does have an off switch tho, and is very receptive to training

Sierra

Sierra is a 4-5 yr old smooth collie mix, maybe has a touch of border collie in her. She is almost 60 pounds of elegance, complete from her elongated nose to the tips of her toes. She glides when she walks and has that beautiful collie prance. She is a quiet girl, very very alert and curious, but has just the right touch of caution. She follows you around, loves to be groomed and petted. Sierra does play sparingly with other dogs and then only briefly, she does however get along fine with every dog she has met, and coexists in a house with many.

She does correct easily with verbals and is sensitive to corrections. Knows sit, working on down, her recall needs to be perfected as she pretends not to hear you when she has found something of interest outdoors. She is a moderately active girl and would be a great dog for hiking, biking and jogging as long as you are not in the competitive range. She does love ball and frisbee, and altho I have not seen her swim yet, she does go in the water and get wet. Sierra is not a needy girl, independent as collies are, and she will be a very loving true and obedient companion. No bad habits that we have seen.

Sierra is housebroken, crate trained, and does not get on the furniture. She is spayed and utd on all shots and preventions. She is however heartworm positive, and we will be treating her for her heartworms. If you are interested in Sierra, a foster to adopt option is available. Please contact us for more information! Dont overlook this loving beauty because of a very treatable issue!

Fluffy

Hi, there my name is Fluffy I am ten weeks old Aussie/Collie or Shepherd Mix. I am an active little girl who would love to go on hikes and to explore life with you. I love to play with big and little dogs. I will even play with the cat if she will just play with me. I am working on my potty training and my crate training. I am up to date on my shots for my age since I am still little. I have started my monthly flea prevention and heart worm prevention. I am a cute little ball of fluff waiting to find my forever home.

Gracie

Gracie is a 2-3 yr old Aussie/Border mix. She was found in August running down a rural road during a thunderstorm, dragging her right front leg. A good samaritan stopped, picked her up and got her vetted. They could not find a physical problem with her leg, it was not xrayed. She was malnourished and unkempt also. The good samaritan and his family kept her for a month, got her back on her feet, and then were given the news that they had to move due to job. Gracie has been with us for a little over a week. She was growly when she first got here and cautious of the other dogs. Growled in her crate at the others, but was and is great with people. Give a days worth of r and r, she is now playing with all of the dogs!

It is rough play, she wrestles and rolls, grabs necks, body slams. She has the aussie bounce, and has no tail just a wiggle stump!! The growling in the crate has stopped now that she knows everyone is her friend. She does crate and easily goes in there for food. She is crated at night without a problem.

She is an alert dog, and does bark when the neighbors kids get loud, or someone comes to the door, and she easily will keep predators out of the yard, ie armadillos, etc.Housebroken totally, likes to play with toys and is fascinated with water!! Today she went in the pond and swam, mostly she likes to make splashes and chase them!! Very attentive to people, she would be a quick study for dock diving. She does have a right front limp, she will hold her paw up now and then, and when she lays she crosses her right paw over left. I am sure that relieves some pressure in her shoulder. We have put her on supplements for now, and will be taking her into the vet for an exam.

The leg in no way hampers her lifestyle, she jumps, runs and plays like mad! However she will not be a performance dog, ie agility because of it. She will need to go to an active home, where she can run and play, hiking and swimming would be great for her. Other dogs are okay, not sure about cats. She did hone in on my sheep right away, so the herding drive is out there. She does not herd other dogs or people tho. Knows sit, is learning down, needs some leash work. Her former home had children over 8, and they had no issues . She is loving life and just needs a person or family to call her own!!! Grace is fostered in Bradenton at the farm, and her adoption fee is $250.

Crystal

Crystal is a beautiful 9 yr old purebred classic blocky cattle dog. She was an owner surrender to a shelter, reasons unknown. She is a very active girl, has already lost some weight, loves to play ball and frisbee! She does get along with other dogs, but likes to be the boss and can get pushy. Being a mature girl, she probably does not tolerate puppies will, but that is not tested.

Typical cattle dog, she is independent, loves the water, good around horses and loves being out at the barn! She will be a wonderful companion for a moderately active family! Okay with cats, does not seem to care about children, she loves people. Okay riding in the car, and was good at the vets. She is in good health, we have her records from her former owner..Currently in a foster home in Sarasota on a horse farm. Please contact us if interested in adopting Crystal!

Gwen

Gwen is a small framed 8 mo old heeler mix from a shelter in central Florida. She is a happy go lucky little girl, and we think she will stay on the small side. Loves to play with people and other dogs, all around great temperament. Now housebroken and crate trained, very gentle with little dogs and pups. She loves to jump high and we think there may be sports potential there. Can be very fast and gets the zoomies, fun to watch! She is learning basic manners, and is very smart!

Rides well in a car, can be a tad shy with new folks but warms up once she feels secure. That should pass as she matures and gets more self confidence in a stable setting. She has only been out of the shelter 2 week, and is transitioning wonderfully! Gwen will require an active home, and being a cattle dog will need an owner that is consistent and patient in setting boundaries. Then she will give you her all! Gwen is being fostered in the Eustis area outside of Orlando. Please contact us if you are interested in this fine young girl!

Update from Gwen's Foster Family - Gwen is a 8 month old Australian Cattle dog who was rescued from a shelter in the Gainesville area...who would imagine that no one wanted to adopt such a beautiful little girl. Gwen is an active little girl who loves to be with other dogs and likes to cuddle with people. She plays wonderfully with big and little dogs. Gwen is still a puppy and jumps on top of the other dogs with her paws to play, but takes correction of her elders well and respects them. She is currently working on house training and is crate trained. I believe she was an outside dog in prior days so you have to be patient with her. At first she knew nothing about being on a leash to go outside to use the bathroom, but she has gotten the hang of it now. Gwen is a great little girl who would love to be in an active home...to go on long walks and playing in the yard with her family.

Starr

Starr is a little blue heeler who came from a high kill shelter in North Ga. We estimate her around 2-3 yrs old. She came to us with demodex mange and that is currently healing up nicely, her hair is growing back in with full coat. Her hair is not soft it is very prickly and hoping with good food that consistency will change. Loves people, a bit shy of meeting new folks, that will diminish with more exposure to the ways of life.

She is very quiet in general, and likes to play with other dogs. She is very vocal when she plays. None of my dogs perceive it as a threat, and give it right back :) She does not play with toys at this point.

Starr does good in a crate, but would prefer not to be, needs some leash work. We are working on basic commands, and no jumping. Starr is very food motivated. She would do very well in a basic obedience class to help overcome her shyness, which is really inexposure to the world. She does NOT like to walk on grass, so we thot maybe she was kenneled for most of her life. She high steps in it and leaps up and down like a rabbit in the grass. She does fine once out in the pasture, sticks to you like glue and will stay close to your side once she bonds with you. She is very curious and alert, and while cautious will investigate new situations.

She does show interest in livestock and alerted to my sheep right away! Starr will be great for a moderately active family, no small children, not sure about cats. Great on a farm or ranch once she is familiar with the lay of the land. She will need someone willing to socialize her, and  teach her boundaries. She will be your forever friend and companion in true heeler fashion. Starr is located in Bradenton at the farm, and her adoption fee is $250.

Buddy

Buddy is a 2 year old dalmation/pointer mix who was brought into the shelter from a neglect/abuse situation along  with 12 other dogs. He has been in boarding for 2 months while being treated for heartworms, and had some complications post treatment which prolonged his boarding. He is now in foster, and is learning what the world is about.

Buddy is an exuberant people dog.  He loves being with his people, both men and women, though a little hesitant at first with men.  He loves being petted and sitting with you.  As a neglect case, it is important to help him feel he is loved and wanted but to learn his bounderies and that all is well.

Buddy is ok on leash - he pulls as he just has to smell every square inch! He does not mess in the house - as I do not have a yard, he is very good at waiting until I walk him which is 3 to 4 times a day for about 20 minutes each time.

He only barks occassionally when he wants attention.  He is afraid of rain and of thunder.  The thunder shirt helps a little bit but mostly I just tell him it is ok and do not reinforce his whining and fear.  He eventually settles down.  As he was mostly in boarding overcoming heart worm, he does not really play much but I can see that emerging and he is ready to run around in a yard.  He is EXTREMELY food motivated so with treats we are doing well with down, sit, coming on his name.  Lot of work to be done with stay, but he has only been to one obedience class.  He was fine with the other dogs in the ring but he is very easily distracted.  But the treats help him focus on you and what you want.  He is a very sweet boy who needs people around and with time to love him.

Levi

Levi is an aussie mix maybe with wire hair pointer and is around 5 or 6 yrs old. He has been sadly neglected and wound up in a N Fl shelter. Due to his poor condition, he was passed over and slated for euth. His sad look just caught our eye, and spoke volumes. Now he is here about a month, and he is an absolutely wonderful boy! Despite his lack of care, no hair, broken teeth, a broken healed floating rib, broken ear and heartworm positive status, Levis attitude is stellar. He just loves people and does just fine with other dogs too!

It took him almost a month to even feel good enough to want to play with the other dogs, or figure out what a ball is. He will chase a frisbee and altho he doesnt know what to do with it, thats a start. This dogs tail constantly wags. He is a timid soul, and makes no waves in the house. Extremely obedient, he actually knows sit, down, come and stand, so at one point in his life someone took the time to train him!

He loves his crate, and has a funny low pitched woo woo woo bark. He LOVES to be petted, and will sit with his face in your lap for hours. He is now housebroken and mastered the puppy door just last week! He has the perfect ragamuffin look about him due to his one ear up one down, and he has the eyes of an old soul.

Levi will not require much activity, he loves to go for walks about the property, his leash walking skills could be improved. He did well at the vets and really did not pay attention to the other dogs. He is quiet at the house, does NOT get on the furniture and lays at my feet. He is not thunder or noise phobic at all. He does not like the sound of loud voices tho, he will retreat to his crate or leave the room.

I just cannot express how touching this dog is, how much he loves and trusts people. Since Levi is heartworm positive, he will go thru treatment. He is on pretreatment now, and following his shots for the worms he will need to be on crate rest for 2 months. We are actively looking for a foster with a somewhat quiet home, where Levi can recuperate from his treatment. He will have to be leash walked for the first few weeks after treatment, and cannot be allowed to jump or run, which will be easy as he does none of that. If you think you may be able to provide him with a temporary loving home for 2 months please contact us. We will be screeing potential fosters very carefully, this boy has been thru far too much to ever want for anything again.

Ditto

Hi, I’m Ditto. I’m an ACD mix, there’s possibly some Kelpie in there…whatever my heritage, I’m a wicked smart, sweet, sweet boy, with an intense desire to be right next to you. I’ve learned sit, stay, shake, stay with me (my Foster Mom’s version of heel), and come. I sit like a little gentleman and wait for my turn at treat time. I seldom have an accident in the house, and when I do, it’s usually because I’m remarking where my foster brother peed. (I think he tries to get me in trouble because Mom loves me best.) Everyone who meets me, loves me. I can run really fast, and jump really high, so I’d be an excellent candidate for agility, or Frisbee.

My foster Mom actually wants to start working with me on catching Frisbees, because she thinks if I’ll do that, it’s my ticket to stardom. I asked her, “Hey, what about agility?” and she said, “You’re fast, I’ll grant you that, but I’ve seen faster.” Rude woman, she is, but I love her with every fiber of my being. I do nip, and nibble, so small children, while I’d adore them and fiercely protect them, probably shouldn’t be members of my immediate future family. Which is sad, really, because I am a gentle dude with everyone who meets me, and I roll over for children to pet my tummy. I get along fabulously with the other dogs who live with me. I’m interested in the cat who lives here, but Mom says I’m a little too boisterous with my interest, and she calls me to her side every time I want to pursue him…and I listen…so she thinks I’d actually be okay with cats. I have a very high pitched outside voice, and if I’m running the fence line with the neighbor’s German Shepherd, I don’t come when I’m called. (Hey, I have so many good qualities that far outweigh that.)

I’m basically chill inside the house; I want to be next to my person. I am a bouncy counter surfer, but Mom is working on that too, and I’m getting better. It’s just that food smells so good. I’m also protective, now that I’ve decided that where I am is my home, and my foster Mom is my person, so I’m being corrected for being over zealous, and learning that if Mom says a person or a dog is okay, the person or dog is okay. I’m learning that quickly too, but she did tell me that being protective when called upon to be protective, is a good thing. So, in a nutshell, I’m a quick study, who wants to please, and wants to love, and be loved, and as if that isn’t enough, I’m strikingly handsome. I really am my foster Mom’s favorite. She told me so.

Blaze

Blaze is maybe 4 or 5 yr old shepherd/bc mix that was turned into a local Florida shelter for being too playful with chickens and cats.

She is an impeccable girl, very gentle, not shy but very obedient. She has been housetrained, leash trained, is good with other dogs, and good with people of all ages. Moderate energy level, and she does play with toys and ball! She is absolutely beautiful, has the whitest teeth, and little white socks.

Blaze knows basic commands, not a needy girl at all. Confident and smart, she will be your best friend and companion for walks, hiking or biking or just watching tv!

She has been exposed to a cat where she lives and really has shown no interest in it, takes treats very gently, waits to be told what to do..She is just such a lady, you really need to meet her so you can see all her wonderful attributes!! Just a wonderful girl, looking for her forever home!!

Mouse

Little Mouse weighs maybe 25 pounds, he was shy and submissive at first and he still pancakes when a human goes to pet him, but that will go away quickly. If you ignore him he tries to jump in your lap, and really does enjoy gentle petting. We think somewhere along the line this boy was manhandled a bit.

He is getting along great with the other dogs, does not engage in full play yet, but I see it coming. Mostly a people dog despite what has been done to him in the past. He just got here on Friday am so these are intitial observations. His first time out at the pond, he came when I called. He is fast, and had a few rounds of zoomies.

Quiet in the house so far, with no bad habits. He waits in line for his food, and is learning what a good place a crate can be. He is very curious and alert, and surveys things before he acts. I think he is going to be an awesome boy, when he settles in. I would bet money on some performance potential here. Will let him settle in first. About 2 maybe younger.

All the way from NC, probably a cattle rat cross, can you say Flyball? Agility? Frisbee?

Update - Mouse is settling into the house :) He is alert, his tail wags all the time. He loves affection, and outdoors thinks he is a mighty hunter. He is playing now with some toys. We took him to flyball class the other nite and he walked nicely on lead into the building, and wanted to meet everyone, dogs and people. He was not in the least intimidated. He did some beginner work on the box, and is very food motivated!

Now he flies into his crate for one little piece of dog food. He has an enchanting habit of rubbing his face on the bed covers after eating, and is getting some rattie behaviour, ie as in taking the covers off the bed and trying to sneak out the door with them. He can also be a little digger if not kept busy with hunting or otherwise. Expert fly catcher :)

This is a delightful little guy that will be a great active partner for whatever. He is very people oriented. Playing regularly now with the others, size does not matter... nice play not terrier like at all! A well behaved little gentleman waiting for his perfect home!

Loki - Adoption Pending

Hi, I’m Loki. I’m an ACD/Jack Russell Terror mix. I’m about 6 or 7 months old, and I’m just a wee bit ADHD. Okay, probably shouldn’t start our relationship off with a white lie. Admittedly, I’m the poster pup for ADHD. I’ve learned every trick my foster Mom has ever succeeded in keeping me still long enough to teach me, and I learned them quickly. Unfortunately, I was bored with them equally quickly. I’ll sit for 10 seconds, before something catches my eye. I’ll sit sweetly for even longer if you have treats, and I’ll courteously wait for my turn. I’ll stay for 8 seconds, before  something catches my eye. I’ll lie down for maybe 3 seconds. Boring.

I walk really well on a leash, and off lead I’ll come within your immediate vicinity when you call my name. I’m all go go go, play play play, until I crash, and then I’ll jump onto your bed and curl up next to you…making your forget how frustrated you were with me just 2 minutes before.

I’m crate trained, and I’m about 85% potty trained. The 15% of which I’m not, I blame mostly on my foster Mom. If she didn’t have that uber cool, never ending, ever flowing, water fountain, I’d probably be at 99%. (I mess up when I’m playing, as I don’t want to take the time to ask to go out.) I can jump REALLY HIGH (I vault, actually) and I can climb gates really fast, but I don’t run off.

I really want to be in my human’s presence. I act big and bad, but I really look to my foster Mom as my safety net against everything that scares me. Did I say something scares me? Scratch that. I meant to say NOTHING scares me…except maybe that cat who lives at MY house. I bark at him, and try to chase him, but someone always stops me from pursuing him. My foster Mom assures me that I don’t want to meet him up close and personal.

I will require an understanding, gently leading, yet “take no prisoners” two-legged Mom or Dad. You see, I’m still figuring out the ways of the world, and reluctantly learning that I don’t wear the laurel crown of omnipotence. I play loud, and I play rough, using my mouth and teeth a lot, which can anger my canine brothers and sisters, who I really do get along well with. Having toys to play tug-of-war with are a necessity. Chew toys are a necessity, or I’ll find some. The game of “Catch Me If You Can” is my number one fun thing to do.

My foster Mom has taken to attaching me to her, so that she can catch me and correct me when I forget my manners. I actually love her for it, and I get lots of praise and petting now, because she catches me doing good stuff too. She says that I have promise, and she knows there’s a sweet boy lurking under my terrier façade. I just need to grow up a little bit. Okay, a lot a bit. So, as you can see…I’m not trouble free, but I’m far from boring, I’m terribly cute, and within my small body beats a heart that will love you with the same intensity that I do everything else. I’m a handful of exuberance, needing a bucketful of tolerance…but I’m SO worth it.

Hank

Hi, I’m Hank, named by my former family, but my foster Mom says it fits, and calls me “Handsome Hank”. She says she’ll be envious of the family who is lucky enough to win my affection, as I’m “one heck of a fun dog” and everyone who meets me falls for me instantly. Yes, I am that good looking. Yes, I am that special. No, I’m not egotistical. I’m just sharing with you what everyone says about me. I’m a dog. Dogs don’t have egos. That’s why we make the best companions.

I do LOVE to play, so if you’d like me to join your family, you should plan on spending a good bit of time wearing me out throwing a ball or a Frisbee (haven’t learned Frisbee yet) in the yard.

If you’re active, I’d be a great running buddy. If you’re into agility, I could probably learn that too, as I’m currently being admonished for jumping up. I like toys A LOT. Plan on purchasing a few somewhat (for what toy truly is?) indestructible toys. Tug-of-war is a favorite game of mine, and I LOVE to chew. I’m learning that hands and feet aren’t acceptable chew toys, but I’m exuberance dogified when you get me going, and I just can’t help myself.

My foster Mom has been grabbing my open mouth and HOLDING MY TONGUE to teach me not to do that anymore. There are no words I can use that could clearly exemplify how incredibly unfun that is, so I’m thinking I’ll choose to learn this lesson quickly.

I sit on command. I fetch with the skill of “google chrome”, and I walk superbly on a leash. If just my description of my enthusiasm leaves you tired, I feel I must also tell you, I do love to chill out on the couch, and at your feet. I’m not ALL go go, do do. (While we’re talking about do do…I’m sure you’d love to know that I’m also housetrained.)

I enjoy playing with my foster brothers and sister, and I’m not the slightest bit easy to anger either. One of my foster brothers likes to tell me that Mom belongs to him, in no uncertain terms. Pfft. Whatever. (She corrects him, and I watch, thinking “neener neener”.) My foster sister is a bit curmudgeonly, and she SERIOUSLY does not want me playing with anyone on or near her bed. After she voices her displeasure, I just give her a “WTH” look, followed by a “Whatever” eye roll, and go play elsewhere. (Mom says I have one of the most expressive faces EVER.)

The cat who lives here peers down his nose at me as if I have cooties, so I’m not interested in meeting him. He HAS an ego. I think that pretty much sums up what you need to know about me. On the whole, I’m a REALLY good boy. I’ve got all the basics down, and I’m learning to share my joie de vivre only when asked to. Mom says that you can search the world over, but you’d be hard pressed to find a better friend than me.

Annie

Annie is a 2-year old border collie. She loves to go for long walks, cuddle on the couch and to play with other dogs. She gets along with every dog she meets and is pretty good with her foster home's cat.

Annie is an excellent companion dog and will happily follow you around your home. She has taken an obedience class, does well with plenty of attention, is crate trained but would prefer to sit with you, and is very food motivated. She also knows some basic agility.

Annie is only be available to a Border Collie experienced owner / home.

Lena

10 mo old catahoula/ acd mix is just full of herself! Meet Miss Lena Legs, she is just the most delightful gal ever! Her tail wags all the time, and she just loves to play play play! We have not had Lena very long, only a couple of weeks.

This is a girl that has had NO training, and in the short time we have had her, she has learned sit down and has a lovely come. She has learned the crate games and now loves her crate, and we are learning that the car is a cool place too. Lena has lots of focus on people, she checks in with you all the time. Loves to play ball, cannot get enough of squeaky toys, and LOVES to swim. We are teaching her water retrieves.

She has started basic obedience and needs leash training, but I have no doubt that will come very fast. Definitely food and toy motivated, her zest for life has no bounds. Lena will be a wonderful companion dog that needs a lot of activity, perhaps a running partner or someone to go hiking with.

She may have sports potential, we will start looking at that. She is about 40 pounds and has long legs, the better to run fast with. Very striking markings, this girl will be ready for her new home in just a few weeks, after spaying and a little more training. If you are looking for a great active companion/partner that will give you total devotion, look no further: Lena Legs is here!

Currently fostered at the farm in Bradenton.

Lizzy

If you are looking for a power packed high energy girl, this is the dog for you. Lizzy was placed in a home and was just too much dog to be in a pet home. She needs a performance home where she will be able to be worked, trained and shown in some venue of competition. It really does not matter which.

This girl has extreme toy/play drive. She will need a bc/acd savvy person, who will be able to let Lizzy know they are in charge. This is a very smart dog. She has all basic commands under control and a down that is to die for. She gets distracted by other dogs, especially when on lead, so we are working on focus focus focus. This is NOT a dog to be drilled, you have to be a creative trainer, and the sky is the limit. She will be able to do anything you want her to.

Lizzy is fearless, LOVES the water. She will swim for an hour just to swim. She retrieves, catches disc, tugs like a maniac. She does get along with other dogs, but needs watching as she can get carried away and kick into herding mode. Lots of intensity here.
She has quite the nose and checked out the obedience building as if on a search. We will have her evalled for SAR, once I am comfortable with her skills in public. She will not be available to a pet home. Please contact us if you are interested in Lizzy, she is a very special and talented girl!

 Punk

Available for adoption now.

Juno

Juno is a great little dog. Very friendly with other dogs and LOVES to be with people. She will hug, kiss and cuddle with you forever. Once she got over her happy excited wiggling and kissing she did very well with my cousin's 2 year old.

She is an awesome little dog and I don't think anyone could meet her and not fall in love. She is the type of dog you could take out and not be worried about her reaction to other dogs, she is just that friendly.

She will chase the ball around for as long as you are willing to toss it but has not mastered bringing it back to you yet. She kind of does a flyby with it. No interest in Frisbee yet but we will see. We have started working on basic commands and she is very smart. She has energy but is not over the top or make you crazy and she has no problem with keeping herself occupied if you are busy.

Juno chases squirrels and such, so not sure how she will be with cats but will try her and see. She sleeps equally well in her crate or loose in our bedroom with the rest of our pack but she will end up in your bed. Lol. She definately needs a furever home that wants her to be included in the family as she thrives on interacting with people.

Wonderful, wonderful dog. She's only been here a week and has managed to totally win over the toughest cookie at our house - my husband.

Ranger

Ranger is 5 years old and was given to a shelter with his friend a terrier because his owner had cancer. We don't know what happened to his friend, we tried to find him, they didn't seem to know what happened to him. Very sad, but we did save Ranger and this is a great dog.

Companion dog, not high drive but gets really excited to play catch LOVES IT. Ranger can boogie on command, I was dancing and singing playing with the dogs and to my suprise he joined in! We took him to the Groomer, Bark Life here in seminole Florida and Tammy tried dancing for him and he joined in with her, Funny dog!

He loves to sit by you on the couch to watch TV and he has to touch... head on the lap or tail touching your leg, very sweet. He is house trained, HW neg, he is on Triflexis now for fleas and HW and is the perfect ready to go pet! He really does not interact with other dogs, but he will play bow intermittantly with smaller submissive dogs, and is gentle with the cats. greets new people with HAPPY HAPPY barks but if a stranger walks by he will warn you.

Ranger is cautious about some people, and has not been exposed to children. Ranger was a solo dog and he grew up with an older couple. He did not go out of the house or yard. When he was turned into the shelter it was a known fact he had never been exposed to children. He constantly is watching you to see what you want from him, waits to go in and out of the house when YOU say so, sits on command, stays on command and loves treats, GREAT dog.

He will be well suited for a single person as a solo dog or an older couple with no children, low noise and activity levels. Great companion dog for walks and just hanging around with. Ranger is currently fostered in Clearwater area.

He is ready to be adopted from Ewenity farms!

 Zoomie

Not your typical border collie! We couldn't help ourselves! Saw this cute face, no other offers of rescue or adoptions, she was an owner surrender we believe and with death looming in the background, we said we would take her. What a gem!

Zoomie is named because she has periods of activity where she zooms around the yard. LOVES other dogs, she will have to go to a home with another dog or 2 or 3 :) She also loves people of all ages.

Zoomie is an english bull mix, we just are not sure what the mix is. She is a tad overweight, working on that, and has the most endearing underbite. Makes her all the more cuter. She knows some basic commands, and walks fairly well on a leash. This is a ready made companion dog, there is really nothing to be done!

She came already spayed, has had all her shots, and is chipped. Heartworm negative on prevention. Crate trained, and is not noise sensitive. Loves to have her belly rubbed and gives the tiniest little kisses. Zoomie loves to ride in the car, and will jump in every chance she gets. She lays with her back legs splayed out, and is very well mannered in the house and housebroken to boot. What more can I say?

Zoomie will make someone a wonderful companion, if you are looking for a moderately active dog, this is your girl!!!

Ginger

Ginger is a 3 yr old pure bred kelpie from rural tenn. We have had her id'd by a kelpie person, and yep she is one. She was found in a drainage ditch with her puppies. The pups were taken by a rescue and they left mom behind :( We felt so bad for her and was told she was sweet and shy we took her in.

She was very shy in the shelter and was not presenting well for adoption. Kelpie is indeed a very sweet girl. she comes to you for petting, loves her belly rubbed, and will basically follow you around the house. She loves to lay on a chair or couch. She is a very quiet girl. She will back off of quick forward movements from you, and is totally submissive when it comes to say getting her in the car. Right now I am picking her up and putting her in, once in the car she just lays on the back seat.

She has a sit, will come to you when you call or pat your leg. She is not food or toy aggressive, and is submissive with other dogs. Being a Kelpie she is a bit independent and does not run with the pack, she goes out and does her own thing. She likes to make herself a dirt nest and loves to roll in the dirt and ground. Shows no affinity for water nor livestock at this point in time. Does have intermittant bursts of zoomies and plays occasionally with other dogs, and very nicely too.

Ginger needs to be socialized, she needs to go for lots of rides, obedience classes, and trips to stores and town. Dog park would be okay once she is settled, but walks would be very good. Leash skills need to be improved. She can still be spooked by different things, and does search the perimeters of my yard for possibly a way out. I do not think she would leave but I cannot rule that out. Off leash yes she would bolt in an unfamiliar area.

She needs to be surrounded with love, consistency, stability and boundaries gently gently, and she will be a fine loving companion. Older children would be fine, younger childrens actions are too spontaneous and erratic. Not tested on cats. I do think she likes the company of another dog, and she would follow their lead. She has very soulful eyes and just needs a chance to be a part of someones life. She will make a fine hiking, biking running partner when she settles in, and will be an active girl. Ginger is spayed, utd on shots, chipped. Please think about giving Ginger the chance to be a part of your family!

Update - Ginger has turned a corner! she has been going to obedience classes, at first tentatively, now she cant wait to get there!!! Her tail wags the whole time. She now comes up to people for petting and is becoming a very outgoing girl!!! Still great in the house, she does not need to be crated when you leave, but does not mind her crate at all!! Not a real player with other dogs, but gets along with them just fine!!! She will make a great companion girl for long walks on the beach, hiking. She does play with toys and ball. Not a water baby tho. Ginger would just love to be by your side and be your best friend!!! Won't you come visit Ginger?? Maybe you are her forever home!!!

Cookie

Cookie is about 8 yrs old. She was taken from a hoarding situation in central Florida. You can tell by her teats that she was used primarily for breeding. Cookie is a dachshund mix maybe with border collie. She is heartworm positive and will receive treatment.

This girl is very shy and hid in her crate for 2 days. Now she comes out to her name, wags her tail all the time. She prefers to be outdoors, which tells me she was kept outdoors, and has to be coaxed inside the house. Once in she is very quiet and just lays at your feet. She loves to have her belly rubbed. I have seen her dance once or twice around feeding time. She seems to be fairly healthy outside of the heartworm issue.

Does not really care about other dogs, nor does she play with toys. I suspect she did not have much interaction with people except for being bred. We are working on her social skills and will start her in classes later, after she gains some confidence and realizes people are not bad.

She loves to sun herself on the back porch, such a gentle and sweet girl, I cannot imagine how someone could mistreat this dog.. she will be available after her heartworm treatment, which will be in the next few weeks.

Cookie will be a great addition to a home where someone wants a companion, she does love to go for walks, is great on a leash. If you are looking for a new friend, this is a girl that does not require a lot of activity, just a soft bed, good food and loving.

Biscuit

Biscuit is a beautiful young border jack from a high kill shelter in NC. Although she is somewhat shy in new situations, she has come  along  way since we got her, and warms up to you after she meets you. Loves people, does get along with other dogs. Cats probably not a good idea. She is a very active girl, plays ball and with toys, and has performance prospect.

She is very very fast, so perhaps agility is in her future. She knows basic commands, but leash walking is not her favorite and needs to be improved upon. A very sweet and loving girl, she is good with kids and ready for her new, active home!

Biscuit would benefit from some obedience classes and socialization to help round her out. Please consider her if you are looking for an energetic companion that likes to snuggle but is ready to play when you are! Biscuit is fostered in Statesboro Ga.

If there is a serious inquiry in Fl we can get her here. She is fully vetted, chipped and spayed, on flea and heartworm prevention.

Henry

Henry is a 4 yr old boy that someone dropped off in the drop pen no info name or anything else . poor henry probably had a home and people at one time. He hails from Tn. He has an old injury to his right eye we do not know if he can see or not. He looks like he was well fed, so im sure he was with people who loved him, and then he had a death sentence.

Now he will be coming to Ewenity. We are looking for a foster home for the holidays for Henry to help him transition out of the shelter . He gets along fine with other dogs and is a low energy boy we are told by the rescue coordinator in Tn. If you can help Henry out, please contact us, he would sure appreciate it!!

Update -

Henry is just the sweetest boy. He is grateful for even the tiniest bit of affection. While I believe he has been an outdoor dog, he sure knows what a couch or bed is!!! He is very attracted to men, so he must have had a male owner. Henry will work stock and does a fair job, so if you need a farm hand around the ranch he could be your man!!! Only sheep or goats, no cattle.

The vet has declared Henrys eye to be damaged from trauma, we speculate maybe from working cattle. He is having surgery on Dec. 20th to have his eye removed as there is no sight from it. He will be ready then to go to a new home wether it be ranch or not. Henry just needs a soft bed, human companionship and some petting. He is very attentive and bonded to people and could care less about other dogs.

Looking for a companion to just be your friend, take long walks with and watch tv with?? Henry is your boy!!! He loves to ride in the car and walks well on lead. Someone will have a friend to the end with this dog. Please consider taking Henry into your home, you will just love this boy!!!!

Rachel Needs YOUR help
~ She's truly a dog to save ~

Rachel is an extremely loving and intelligent girl. I found her crossing a busy avenue, disoriented and looking for help. As soon as I opened the door, she jumped in and began licking my hands and face. She loves to play fetch, go for walks, and afternoons at the dog park. She has a strong herding instinct and is a wonderful sentinel - ANY strange sounds or people and she will bark to alert whoever is near. She's also very vocal and craves affection, making sounds that seem as if she's speaking to you. Completely housebroken and loves to be with all family members. She's a wonderful companion!
